have you looked at letter frequency in the seeding?
it may make sence to bias key location in terms fo frequency of use (i.e. e, t, r, go on top row) and then look at derevitave layouts with keystroking set to make common strings (er, th, etc) easier to key (i,e, 1,4, or 2,5) while placign the less common keys/combos farther apart. are you intending autocomplete or full word entry?
This was optimising for full word entry - least collisions between words. Optimising for key entry speed would be a secondary problem, IMO.
